There are many upsides to the new place, but something that meshes with my previous post and encapsulates the change in my personal attitude is that I'm now far more comfortable about hosting games and even having a mini-asl event as the Cleavinator does over the New Year's break. Being able to prepare decent food ahead of time will make it far more of a pleasdant event than having to Peterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12896707717043258254noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4582720444864808586.post-90004856295169148182014-07-21T19:31:00.000+10:002014-07-21T19:31:16.802+10:00I may have to hand in my Man card...
Not an ASL post (for the most part)
The Move is almost ready to begin, I still have to pack up the study which will take most of Wednesday night and Thursday morning before I pick up the keys to the new place.
One of the reasons I went ahead with grabbing this place despite not having Broadband internet as opposed to ADSL2+, was the kitchen and the lock up garage for additional storage/Peterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12896707717043258254noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4582720444864808586.post-7210158942037182932014-07-19T17:50:00.001+10:002014-07-19T17:50:57.580+10:002014 ASLOK XXIX - preparation
ASLOK XXIX - 2014
Gaming Choices
As I confirmed in 2010 at ASLOK XXV, travelling (one way) just under 15 and a half thousand kilometers to play ASL is a mission in itself. I found it really helped if I had a theme to aspire to in my scenario selection and Mini-Tourney selection.
The 2010 Minis
In 2010, I focussed on the PTO primarily, with my mini choices being as follows:

ASLOK XXIX is a done deal!
In the end, my attendance at ASLOK XXIX was going to be a very close run thing. With the ending of a relationship, the subsequent upheaval and stress and then the termination of my existing residential lease, it was not looking good.
Thankfully, things turned out okay. Sure I might be living on ramen and instant coffee until the day of my departure so I can Peterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12896707717043258254noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4582720444864808586.post-1947685630536651082014-02-02T11:16:00.002+11:002014-02-02T11:16:59.486+11:00January in review
January 2014
It's been an interesting start to the year, with lots of overtime at work impinging on my energy levels to play and arrange games - No Paddo Bearz, minimal Live VASL
Games Played:
J147 Into the Grinding Mill - VASL - won as KMT vs John Knowles with an upfront defensive variation. Surprised John with that, and did some damage up front.
DftB107 StossGruppe Schlicter - Peterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12896707717043258254noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4582720444864808586.post-21654992329019679992013-12-31T22:30:00.000+11:002013-12-31T22:30:40.559+11:002013 In Review
The Good:
Attended CanCon for the first time
Attended JunoBear
Played as many games Face to face as I did on VASL
Played close to 30 games this year despite 8 months offline
Made contact with more ASLers in the region
Found that I enjoy helping relative newcomers to ASL with the game
Without actually trying, realised that I actually do know the IFT by heart for the most part
I am Peterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12896707717043258254noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4582720444864808586.post-65446619305663229352013-12-30T21:59:00.003+11:002013-12-30T21:59:42.539+11:002014: Malaya Madness - The Plan (Revised)Still working on the setups and hopefully some custom printed scenario maps to take with me.
In the meantime, I've managed to take a look at G46 Triumph Atop Taraldsvikfjell (I cannot believe I managed to type that from memory) and I was obviously thinking of a different scenario. I looked at Board 2 under VASL and thought about both defence and attack.
In any case my Round 1 picks are now:

This is my primary goal for the first half of 2014: attending the inaugural Asia-Pacific ASL tourney in Singapore. Budget wise it is going to be very tight, but hopefully the OT due me will take care of that.
It will have been almost 40 years since I was last in Singapore for more than a stopover at the airport, so I'm effectively going there for the first time. As always, attendingPeterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12896707717043258254noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4582720444864808586.post-11811635813130367532013-11-23T13:52:00.001+11:002013-11-23T14:06:25.405+11:00Man Dollies and Miniature WargamingIt's only taken 5 years, but I've finally started my miniatures blog on Blogger:

Jeremy Dibbens and I played a game of BB5/G35/ASL105 Going To Church with Jeremy taking the attacking Canadians and myself playing the point defence SS. The omens were not propitious as I knocked over my best coffee mug onto the tiled floor before the game even started. Although this (Blogger) iteration of the blog is relatively recent, my first ASL related post was back in September 2004, a capsule review of a pretty decent book and ASL Third Party Publisher .
So I am now in the 10th year of posting, even if it's only an average of 1 post per month. But not only have I started two more games, I'm able to restart a game with Joern Helms: AP 17 The Valley of Death.

Eight months of exile in tablet hell will come to an end with a vengeance. All caused, not by a power surge as I had thought and dreaded due to the cost of replacing the Solid State Drive, the graphics card and power supply, but by a single failure in a $5 SATA cable connected to the OS drive. So much of my exile Peterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12896707717043258254noreply@blogger.com0
